Riverside Loop - West

Riverside - Bridge

Starting from the bridge in the town centre, head along the riverside keeping right to go down the steps to join the path alongside the river. Along the bank you can look back to the bridge for this view.

Continue along the path past the adult gym, play park and car park.

Riverside - grass area

Continue along by the river until you reach the wooden bridge over the Cuttle Burn. Cross the bridge and keep going.

Riverside - bottom of Oakbank Steps

You quickly come to the bottom of the Oakbank Steps - before going up have a look upstream beyond the fence upstream to see some more interesting rock formations as shown in this picture. It is possible to go through the fence and down to the river but you must take care as it can be slippery and difficult.

Head up the steps and turn right along Oakbank Road.

Oakbank Road

Turning right at the top of the steps takes you onto Oakbank Road.

You will come to a fork in the road where you can either stay on the left to go straight ahead or take the fork on the right which brings you to the viewing platform at Cargill’s Leap and then Oakbank Mill. Stick left to go up and join Oakbank Road again rather than cross the foot bridge.

Continue along Oakbank Road past the houses on your left.

Oakbank Road Mill Ruins

The ruined mill buildings - while steeped in history and interesting to look at - are not safe to enter.

Brooklinn Mill

Continue along Oakbank Road and you'll come to some privately-owned renovated mills - Brooklinn Mill and the Jute House. Carry on to the weir.

Lornty Burn Weir

From here, carry on to the end of the track and turn sharp left uphill on to the Lornty Road. Head along the road up the hill, past a house and farm buildings to a steep uphill section.

The Red Door

You'll come across this red door near the top of the hill - please don't open it or try to, it's private but feel free to pop a photo of it on Facebook and tag Discover Blairgowrie so we know you're following our walk!

Viewpoint - Lornty Road

At the top of the hill there's a bench on your left where you can get your breath back and enjoy the views!

Carry on straight (don't turn right) along the road until you approach the edge of the town; before you cross the bridge, take a left onto the path between the field on your left and the trees and the Cuttle Burn on the right.

Carry on along the edge of the field and then down some steps which take you back to the riverside.

Steps down to Oakbank Road

At the bottom of the steps, you can either turn left then right back down Oakbank Steps to the riverside to retrace your steps, or turn right on Oakbank Road and head back to the town centre.
