Blairgowrie and Strathmore Home-Start Parent Volunteers

30th August

Home-Start is taking their training course – known as ‘the Prep Course’ to Rattray in Autumn 2016. Home-Start supports vulnerable families throughout the whole of Perthshire, so, it makes sense for us to take the training to where families and volunteers are. After a successful 6 week training course in Aberfeldy, the Home-Start team is now heading to Rattray to extend this opportunity to volunteers in your area. Home-Start supports families with children under the age of 5. They offer a service which aims to empower and support parents to develop the skills needed to become confident and effective, enabling them to provide a strong foundation for their children in the earliest and most important years of their lives. Home-Start works by matching trained volunteers with families. Volunteers then offer individualised support for families who face difficulties. These difficulties may include isolation, poverty, domestic abuse, substance abuse, bereavement, single parents, multiple births, family breakdown, illness and disability, and behavioural problems. Home-Start provides support that is non-statutory, non-judgemental and non-invasive. Parent volunteers do not dictate how to make families lives better; they help them find their way. In this way, coping strategies, independence, and confidence are developed. This in turn promotes child health and well-being, early years’ development and attainment. Support (which, while averaging 6-9 months can be anything from weeks to years), involves a parent volunteer visiting the family once a week for up to two hours. Support is very much tailored towards the individual. If you would like to find out more about the opportunity to become a parent volunteer and benefit from the rewarding experience on offer, please contact either Tania or Jill on 01738 638847 or email Further information: Home-Start Perth Tel: 01738 638847
