Hayley Nicoll - Braemar Day Organiser
Posted on Friday, September 01, 2017
My name is
Hayley Nicoll, 32 and I am an Early Years Practioner, where I work in a local
nursery in Blairgowrie.
I am a
volunteer in running Blairgowrie and Rattray Braemar Association. We are a
group of 5 local ladies who fundraise throughout the year to put on the biggest
gala day in the town. This will be the 66th year of Braemar Day. Braemar Day is
always on the first Saturday in September, which is held in the Wellmeadow.
We organise
a fun filled day planned for all ages. It starts from 1.30pm - 9pm where we
have a finale of fireworks display.
Throughout
the day we have entertainment, stalls, fun fairs parades pipe bands dancers
etc.
One of my
roles in the team is the entertainment so I look for new and upcoming bands or
singers and contact dance groups, pipe band, other local groups etc.
I liaise
with them all and try and fit them all in from 1.30-9.
I became
involved in Braemar Day because I have so many memories of my grandparents
coming to visit us on Braemar Day and having so much fun with all the family.
My grandad
loved the music and the mass pipe band parade at night. Now that he is no
longer with us I want to keep this tradition on for other families to enjoy and
create their own memories just like I have with my family.
The day
wouldn’t go ahead without the support of local people and businesses. So on
behalf of the committee I would just like to thank you all.
