The Ericht Trust has submitted an offer to buy the Hill Primary School for the Blairgowrie and Rattray community. Closing date for offers to estate agent JLL is 10th June 2015. The school could be developed into a Heritage and Cultural Centre for all of East Perthshire.

Three and a half years of intensive voluntary and professional work has brought us to this point. £50K of money raised from grants and local donations has been spent developing a full business plan, a survey of the roof, bat survey, topographical survey, architectural drawings and a valuation of the site to demonstrate that this project is viable and sustainable.

Over 6000 hours of volunteers’ time and at least 230 hours of pro bono work from professionals have gone into this project to date. This together with the offer will bring the cost spent so far to over £200 K! We have had strong support from SSE, the Architectural Heritage Fund, the Heritage Dragons, the Association of Industrial Archaeologists and others who find this project one of outstanding excellence.

We have done as much as we can. We have jumped through all the hoops that PKC has requested, so that today as well as the formal legal offer, eighteen different files have been submitted to support their " Best Value and Best Consideration Criteria". Our offer, of course carries conditions, not least a three year licence period to raise the funds to develop the building.

Now the rest is up to the community. Write to elected councillors representing this ward and those on the full Perth and Kinross Council. Write to the Ericht Trust. Without a demonstration of support from this community our offer may not succeed. The Council needs to know the strength of community feeling on this. This area lacks a centre for locals and visitors. Don’t let us lose out on this opportunity.

Details of locally elected members and others are on PKC website at www.pkc.gov.uk
