Local Lipreading Tutor Wins National Recognition
5 March 2016
Local lipreading tutor Susan Brown was runner up for a Scottish Sensory Award 2016
Susan attended the award ceremony hosted by Angela Bonomy of the Scottish Government’s See Hear Strategy at the University of Stirling. The creation of sensory impairment awards for Scotland was to recognise the extent of the range of work with deaf, deafblind and visually impaired people and to raise awareness of the work of statutory, third and independent sector services with people with sensory impairment. Susan was nominated by one of her students for the “Promoting choice & control, supporting person centred approaches for people with a sensory loss” category. The other 62 nominations across the seven categories were received for Social Work, RNIB, a housing association, a day service, schools, prescribing support teams, deaf studies, leisure, singing, museums, the pub, Forth Valley Sensory Centre, NHS, and libraries. Susan teaches classes in Forfar, Blairgowrie and Perth. Anyone interested in joining her classes should contact her on 01250 872861.
