David MacPhail - Children's AuthorDavid says:

My children’s book, Thorfinn and the Awful Invasion, has been shortlisted for the inaugural ‘Lollies’ (Laugh Out Loud) Award. It’s a biggie, the successor to the Roald Dahl award, and was set up by ex Children’s laureate Michael Rosen and Scholastic books. For anyone writing funny books for kids it’s the equivalent of getting into the World Cup Final. I still can’t quite believe it!

My publisher, Young Kelpies, is based in Edinburgh, so its a terrific Scottish one-two.

I launched the book as part of the Bookmark 2015 festival. The launch was at No 5 Davie Park, which is a community flat in Rattray, as part of a reading and writing development project I was working on.

What’s really great about this prize is that the winner will be chosen by kids. In fact schools can get involved in the judging process. Hopefully I can get a few of the local ones involved. I’ve copied a link below to the site, along with todays ‘Guardian', and the press release from my publisher, Young Kelpies.

David continues, "All this will conclude in a glittering awards ceremony in London in early July. I’ll be there proudly representing Blair. In fact, a team of wild horses, ridden by screaming valkyries with lasers mounted on their heads, would not keep me away!"

We wish David the very best with the nomination.
