The Sustainable Development Goals: can they deliver economic, social and environmental transformation?

Blairgowrie, Rattray & District Climate Cafe are delighted to host this presentation by Dr Keith Skene, Director, Biosphere Research Institute.

See here to book.

We live in extremely challenging times on Planet Earth. In 2016, the United Nations launched Agenda 30, a radical new policy document that claimed to be a “universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity”. Central to this agenda are the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Given the acknowledged failures of its predecessor, the Millennium Development Goals, the changing social, economic and environmental landscape, and the widely divergent views relating to sustainability and development, what hope is there for the SDGs?

Dr Keith Skene acts as a consultant and contributor to the United Nations Education Programme (UNEP) on the SDGs. In this lecture, he will examine the challenges and opportunities ahead, asking whether or not the SDGs are fit-for-purpose, and if not, how we should address the problems facing us.
